Today, Cville Pride and the LGBTQ community mourns the loss of Clyde Cooper, LGBTQ leader, a legend to many of us.
Clyde established the first gay bar in Charlottesville at a time when much of gay and lesbian life remained illegal and underground. He provided a safe place for people to find much-needed community, self-expression, and support – first at the Silver Fox and then at Club 216.
Clyde Cooper was recognized by Cville Pride as the 2015 recipient of the Cornerstone Award for the impact he made in the formation of LGBTQ culture and community in Charlottesville.
He will be greatly missed by all of us.
Thank you, Clyde, for the memories. Thank you for your courage and warmth. Thank you for everything.
