Cville Pride Celebrates Pride Month at The Bridge

Coming this June 2018, for annual Pride Month, The Bridge will host a photography show and several Cville Pride events.

Redefining the Family Photo: What family looks like for LGBTQ people in Charlottesville

June 1- 30, 2018 @ The Bridge PAI

Join us for a group show presenting the myriad permutations of “family” experienced by the LGBTQ community in Charlottesville. Often excluded from enjoying traditional and biological connections, LGBTQ individuals have had to redefine who constitutes a family, creating a sense of belonging and community in places and ways that challenge norms and assumptions about what a family can mean. In the context of the last several years of social and legal change — Cville Pride organization, marriage equality, for example – these photos show us how the definition of family has emerged and morphed here in our local experiences of celebration, grief, and protest.

Featured photographers to include: Eze Amos, Guillermo Ubilla, Christian DeBaun, Sarah Cramer, Jeff Cornejo, as well as photos from youth.

Join Us: June Events at The Bridge

Free refreshments and a first look at the show! Join us for a joyful first night to launch the month!

June 11 – 6-8pm – Visual Storytelling Photography Workshop (with pizza!)

LGBTQ youth and allies are invited to join a workshop taught by local digital artist and photographer Guillermo Ubilla. Everyone has a story worth telling. Learn the value of story and several visual storytelling techniques as you spend the workshop creating your own zine. Leave the workshop with a few blank zines and a few ideas to create and share your story.

June 23  – A Midsummer’s Night Pride Reception & Silent Auction

Join us for an evening of food, drink, music and imagery celebrating LGBTQ Pride Month. A silent auction will raise funds for the 7th annual Cville Pride Festival, which we hope to expand this year to include even more events and opportunities for education and celebration.
We’ll also have a special speaker from the Human Rights Campaign and some other fun surprises.

  1. Pride team,
Twice last year I entered my contact information as a healthcare provider and each time it did not seem to reach the listing. Not sure why; I probably didn’t enter it correctly. I am physical therapist, wellness consultant and yoga/mindfulness instructor. However here it is-perhaps a member of your team could enter it?
