Bailey McDaniel and Emily Turner, students at Mississippi State University, display bravery and leadership as organizers of Starkville Pride in Starkville, Mississippi. Last week, the city’s Board of Alderman voted 4-3 to deny Starkville Pride a permit for the city’s first-ever Pride celebration. The reason being? Hostility toward the LGBTQ+ community.
But Bailey and Emily vow to keep fighting – that’s why they’ve connected with attorney Roberta Kaplan to file a lawsuit against the city of Starkville to challenge this blatant violation of their First and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
