Friday, June 16, Charlottesville, VA — The Charlottesville Pride Community Network announces that the 6th annual Cville Pride Festival will be held at the Sprint Pavilion, an event venue located on the historic Downtown Mall. The reason? Growth.
At the 5th annual Cville Pride Festival last year, people complained.
“It was too crowded,” said one attendee. “I walked through and I could barely move, so I had to leave.”
It was a comment we’d been hearing more and more as the numbers of people coming to the Pride Festival increased from 1,000+ the first year to over 5,500 in 2016.
Emancipation Park (formerly known as Lee Park), loved for its grassy spaces and central location, just couldn’t hold all that rainbow pride anymore!!
“We are so excited,” says Cville Pride president Amy-Sarah Marshall. “Not only will moving to the Spring Pavilion give visitors more space, but we’re expecting better sound, better entertainment, and more and more surprises along the way!”
Organizers explain that their hope had been to stay on or near to the Downtown Mall, due to the valued partnerships with downtown businesses, ease of access, and “We wanted to stay central to the city,” Marshall says. “This is an event about visibility and awareness. It just doesn’t feel right to go off the beaten path.”
But size was not the only reason.
The 6th Annual Cville Pride Festival will take place September 16, 2017. Don’t miss it!
