FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Amy-Sarah Marshall, President
CALLING ALL LGBTQ BUSINESS OWNERS & FRIENDS
Join us for a wine & cheese tasting to learn about upcoming opportunities
Charlottesville, VA – Sunday, August, 28, 2016 – Local nonprofit Charlottesville Pride Community Network (Cville Pride) proudly announces a gathering for LGBTQ business owners and allies interested in learning more about initiatives developing around LGBTQ tourism and business. This wine, beer, and cheese tasting takes place as part of the 5th annual Cville Pride Festival Week.
Referencing a recent press release about the Virginia Tourism’s new programs to target LGBTQ tourists, Cville Pride president Amy-Sarah Marshall notes, “Governor McAuliffe has brought awareness to the untapped market of LGBTQ consumers and tourists. He understands that economic development and outreach requires inclusive messaging, and as the LGBT Tourism Task Force found, there has to be more than a message – there has to be a reality of welcome and acceptance for the message to work.”
Cville Pride launched a safe-space training initiative last year in part to provide local businesses a path to becoming more inclusive to their customers. “Not only does this type of education help you make your customers feel respected and comfortable – it helps your employees, straight and gay alike, feel more confident and welcome.”
At Wine, Cheese, & Pride at Whole Foods, 6-8pm on September 15, Marshall will provide more information about initiatives in the works for the local business community. She encourages anyone interested in learning more to attend. “This is an exciting time for Charlottesville,” Marshall says. “We have the chance to lead the rest of Virginia in becoming a city known for being inclusive and welcoming and attractive to the LGBTQ community.”
